"Rodney Darling" is the sixth episode of Season 2 of Squirrel Boy, and the thirty-second episode of the series overall. It first aired on February 16, 2007.

Summary[]

When Rodney gets excluded from Mr. Johnson's Men's Club, he decides to join Mrs. Johnson's Ladies' Club and becomes the best thing the club's ever had.

Plot[]

Andy and Mr. Johnson are eating pies off a train without a fork as a leisure activity of being in the Johnsons' Men's Club. Rodney intrudes by asking what he's missed and Mr. J denies Rodney's affiliation with the club since he never told him about it. Andy tells him Rodney has to have a membership card and that he can't get one without reading the rules first which are on the back of the card. Rodney fantasizes about being in the Johnsons' Men's Club and Mr. J interrupts his daydream before kicking him out. Mr. J denies him entry since he is not a biological member of the Johnsons and because these club meetings are the only time he gets to spend with Andy without "others" around.

As Rodney gets kicked out of the club, he overhears a group of women chattering and goes in the backyard to see what it's about. He sees that Mrs. Johnson is hosting a Ladies' Club meeting that she holds every time there's a Johnsons' Men's Club meeting. The women are looking for a fourth member and Rodney agrees to vacate that spot despite being male and a squirrel. He joins the ladies in their game of cards and does many funky dances with them. The women all accept him as the new member and make plans with him for the next day to have a tea and poetry session, but Rodney shafts this in favor of drinking an orange water sugar beverage with various spices, which makes the ladies feel energized and Esther age down making her look younger. Meanwhile in the Johnsons' Men's Club, Andy and Mr. Johnson are playing a game called "Stacko" involving stacking blocks to create a tower without them falling. Andy insists he's bored and shows envy toward the Ladies' Club outside. Mr. J wonders what that club has that they don't, then looks outside and sees a flag. Though what the Johnson men really need is a third member.

Leon joins the Johnsons' Men's Club as the new third member. Rodney sees this and expresses shock and jealousy, asking what Leon did that he didn't, to which Mr. J says Leon asked, and that he kind of looks like a Johnson from a certain angle. Rodney then goes off riding on Esther's motorized cart in jealousy with the ladies, telling the Johnsons to eat their dust. Rodney's affiliation with the Ladies' Club has taken over Mr. Js life, as Mrs. J is routinely talking about how much of a hit Rodney is with the women which gets on Mr. J's nerves. He has to find a way to get Rodney out of that club. One afternoon, Mr. Johnson holds a meeting with Andy and Leon over Rodney's troublesome affiliation with the Ladies' Club and rallies with them to get him out of that club. When Rodney has returned from another day out with the ladies, Mr. Johnson reluctantly asks him to join the Johnson's Men's Club. Rodney accepts, and tries to sabotage the Ladies' Club by causing a rafting accident which destroys the entire Johnsons' Ladies' Club in the backyard, causing Esther to turn her back against Rodney.

Mr. Johnson officially discontinues the Johnsons' Men's Club and heads back inside. Leon then whispers to Andy about starting a new club, which intrigues Rodney as he wants in.
